AE86 Gearbox
The 5-speed gearbox in the AE86 is called a T50 (toyota code) although it won't have "T50" writen on it anywhere. The AE85 had a smaller K50 and others used a automatic, which is of little interest to us now. The T50 is fairly light as it is all aluminium. The split case design is a little unusual, but makes assembly very simple. Apart from the split case, it is a normal 5-speed box with brass syncros and works very well. This basic gearbox was first used behind the T, 2T and 2T-G motors in 1970. The biggest motor is was behind was the 1800cc 3T. It is said the T50 can take 200hp, but it depends alot on how you drive it and how long it needs to last. The gearbox was updated maybe in 1982? with bigger input shaft bearing and output shaft, so be weary of some differences.
